When the going gets tough, it's all too easy to get caught up with all our ‘failures’. In doing so, we have forgotten to see that we actually had successes to be proud of.

It's completely fine that you were five pounds off your target. It just means that now, you're five pounds closer to your goal. Missing out on that dream job does suck. But now, at least you know what you did wrong, and you should do instead. Heartbreak is always messy and painful. However, it doesn't make the love you have felt for that person any less true.

These lists that we make aren't there to objectify our worth into the number of boxes we were able to tick off. Rather, these are here to help guide us along the road of becoming a better person. The process of becoming better people is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as we tick things off our lists consistently, we'll get to where we want to be.

As 2016 draws to a close, let's celebrate all of the boxes we've ticked and embrace those that we haven't. 2017 is almost here and with it comes the chance to tick all of those remaining boxes and the opportunity to dream of bigger, crazier goals.
